Job interview questions and answers: how to prepare

Also available in:
Updated: 26 October 2026.
Most job interviews in Uzbekistan use the same dozen questions, so you can prepare good answers in one evening. Below are those questions, what the employer really wants to hear, and short sample answers you can adapt. On 26 October 2026, Cloz had 5,229 vacancies published in the last 7 days, so there are plenty of interviews to prepare for.

The 10–12 questions almost every employer asks

An interviewer wants to understand three things: can you do the work, will you stay, and will you fit the team. Every question below checks one of them.
Question
What the employer really wants to know
A short sample answer
Tell me about yourself.
Can you speak clearly about what matters for this job?
See the next section.
Why do you want to work here?
Did you read about us, or do you send your CV everywhere?
"You have shops in several districts and you train new staff. I want a place where I can learn and stay for a long time."
Why did you leave your last job?
Will the same problem happen here?
"The shop closed." / "I wanted a full-time job." Never complain about your old boss.
What are your strengths?
Can you prove it with an example?
"I'm reliable. In two years I was never late for a shift."
What are your weaknesses?
Are you honest, and do you work on yourself?
See the section on weaknesses.
What did you achieve at your last job?
Results, not a list of duties.
"I learned the accounting program in a month and then trained two new colleagues."
Tell me about a difficult situation.
How do you behave under pressure?
"A customer was angry about a wrong order. I listened, apologised, fixed it and told my manager."
Where do you see yourself in 3–5 years?
Do you plan to stay and grow?
"I'd like to become a senior specialist in this team."
Why should we hire you?
A short summary of why you fit.
"You need someone who speaks Uzbek and Russian and can start soon. I can do both."
How much do you want to earn?
Does your number fit our budget?
See the section on salary.
When can you start?
Is anything in the way?
"From next Monday." / "In two weeks, after I hand over my current work."
Do you have any questions for us?
Are you really interested?
See the list of questions below.
For the questions about achievements and difficult situations, prepare two or three short stories. Tell each one as: the situation, what you did, the result.

How to answer "Tell me about yourself" in one minute

The employer wants a short introduction linked to the job, not your life story. Use four parts:
  1. Who you are now: you study, work, or are looking for work.
  1. The experience that matters for this vacancy.
  1. One strength, with a short fact.
  1. Why you want this job.
A template you can fill in:
"My name is … . For the last … I have worked as … . I'm good at …: for example, … . I'd like this job because … ."
An example without work experience:
"I'm a third-year student. On weekends I helped at my family's shop, so I know how to talk to customers and use a cash register. I'm looking for evening shifts, and your vacancy fits my study schedule."
Say it out loud and record yourself on your phone: aim for about one minute. If you have no experience yet, the same ideas help on paper: What to put on a resume with no experience.

How to talk about your weaknesses and gaps in your CV

Weaknesses

Name a real weakness that is not critical for this job, and say what you are doing about it. Avoid "I'm a perfectionist": interviewers hear it all the time, and it sounds rehearsed.
  • "It used to be hard for me to speak in front of a group. Now I present at team meetings, and it's getting easier."
  • "My Excel is basic. I'm taking a free online course and already use formulas for simple reports."
Don't choose a weakness that is the heart of the job. "I don't like talking to strangers" will end an interview for a sales role.

Gaps in your CV

A gap is normal. The employer only wants to know that nothing risky happened. Answer briefly and honestly, and finish with the present:
  • "I spent a year at home with my child. Now my child goes to kindergarten, and I'm ready for a full day."
  • "I worked abroad for two years. I'm back and want stable work here."
Never invent a job to fill a gap: an employer can call your previous workplace.

What to say when asked about salary

Know your number before the interview. Look at similar vacancies in your city: many vacancy pages on Cloz show a "typical pay" block for the role. How to read these numbers: How to know your market value at work.
Then answer with a range, where the lower end is the amount you would still accept:
"From what I see in similar vacancies, I expect … to … million so'm a month. I'm open to discussing it if the job offers training and growth."
If you really don't know, it's fine to ask first: "What budget do you have for this position?"
Before you agree, ask about the details:
  • Is the amount "in hand" or before tax?
  • What part is fixed, and what part depends on bonuses or KPI?
  • Is the trial period paid, and how much?
  • Will the job be official, with a contract?
  • How often is salary paid: once or twice a month?

Questions to ask the employer at the end

This is your chance to show interest and check the job. Pick three or four:
  • What does a usual working day look like?
  • Who will I report to, and how big is the team?
  • What should I achieve in the first three months?
  • How long is the trial period, and how is it organised?
  • When can I expect your decision?

What to do the evening before and the morning of the interview

The evening before

  1. Reread the vacancy and mark the three main requirements.
  1. Look at the company's website, Instagram or Telegram channel.
  1. Say your "tell me about yourself" and two stories out loud.
  1. Prepare clean, neat clothes.
  1. Plan the route and add 20–30 minutes for traffic.
  1. For an online interview, test the link, camera, microphone and internet.

Checklist for the interview day

Passport or ID card (show it, but don't leave it with anyone)
Two printed copies of your CV
Copies of diplomas or certificates, if the vacancy asks for them
A pen and a notebook
Phone fully charged, plus a power bank if you have one
Address saved in your maps app; arrive 10–15 minutes early
The contact person's name and number
Money for the bus or taxi home

Stay safe

A real employer does not charge you for a job. If before or at the interview you are asked to pay for training, a uniform or a "medical check through us", or to leave your original passport, stop. Never send card details or SMS codes. More signs: Fake job offers on Telegram: 12 warning signs.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear to a job interview?

Clean, neat clothes that are a little more formal than what people wear at that workplace every day. For an office, a shirt or blouse works well. For a shop, café or warehouse, neat casual clothes are fine.

What if I don't know the answer to a question?

Be honest and show how you would deal with it: "I haven't done this yet, but I would start by …". Don't invent experience.

Should I call the employer after the interview?

Yes, if they don't contact you by the day they named. Send one short, polite message: "Hello, I had an interview with you on Tuesday for the cashier position. Is there any news?"

For a call center job, is the interview different?

Often it includes a test call, where the interviewer plays a customer. Here is a script to practise: Call center operator job: pay and interview. Students can find shift work here: Part-time jobs for students in Tashkent.

Your next step: pick two or three vacancies from this week, prepare your answers for each, and apply.
