To ask for a raise and get a yes, you need three things: the right moment, the market rate for your job, and a list of your results. According to Cloz data on 26 October 2026, the typical salary for a sales manager in Tashkent is 6.5 million UZS (based on 2,119 vacancies), and for a driver it is 5.5 million UZS (based on 354 vacancies).
This guide covers when to ask, what to prepare and what to say to your manager. At the end you will find a ready conversation script and a one-page "my results" template.
Choose the right time to ask
Timing matters as much as your words. If your manager is busy or the company is going through a hard period, the answer is usually "later".
Good moments:
- your probation period has ended, or you have worked there for a year;
- you have just finished a big project or beaten your target;
- you have taken on new duties or people to manage, but your pay has not changed;
- the company is planning next year's budget (ask your manager or HR when this happens).
Bad moments: during layoffs, on your manager's first day back from holiday, or right after a visible mistake of yours. In these cases, wait one or two weeks.
Do not raise it in passing in the corridor. Ask for a short meeting in advance: "Could we have 15 minutes to talk about my work and my salary?"
Find out what your role pays elsewhere
"I need more money" rarely works. "The market pays this much for this job" works much better. So go to the meeting with a number.
- Search Cloz vacancies for your job title and choose your city.
- Open 10–15 listings that show a salary. A vacancy page with a salary shows how it compares with the market: the minimum, average and maximum for that profession.
- Compare the requirements with your own: experience, languages, software.
- Write down the salary range that fits you.
Three professions in Tashkent on 26 October 2026:
Profession | Typical salary | Middle half of vacancies | Vacancies counted |
Driver | 5.5 million UZS | 4.5–7 million UZS | 354 |
Sales manager | 6.5 million UZS | 4–10 million UZS | 2,119 |
Accountant | 6.5 million UZS | 4.4–10 million UZS | 331 |
"Middle half" means that half of the vacancies pay within this range. If you earn close to the bottom of the range but have a lot of experience, that is a strong argument for a raise.
Collect proof of your results
Your manager does not remember every good thing you did. So keep your own record and bring one page of facts to the meeting.
What to write down:
- results in numbers: sales, number of clients, fewer errors, time saved;
- new duties that were not part of the job when you were hired;
- new colleagues you have trained;
- feedback from clients or colleagues (written feedback is even better);
- courses you have completed and new skills.
The "my results" template
Fill in this table on your phone or on paper:
Section | What you write |
Job title and time in the role | For example: sales manager, 1 year 4 months |
Current pay | Fixed salary and bonus, separately |
3 main results | Each one with a number |
New duties | Things you did not do when you were hired |
What you have learned | A course, software, a language |
Market rate | Typical salary and range on Cloz |
The amount you ask for | One number or a narrow range |
Update your CV with the same results while you are at it. You will be ready for the meeting, and ready to look for a new job if you need to.
How to start the conversation
Talk about your work first, then name the number. Be specific: one amount or a narrow range, never "whatever you can offer". Keep it short and listen to the answer.
A ready conversation script
- Opening: "Thank you for your time. I would like to talk about my work over the past year and my salary."
- Results: "Over this period I … For example, the number of clients grew from … to … I have also taken over …"
- Market: "The typical salary for this role in Tashkent is about … million UZS. Right now I earn … million."
- Request: "So I would like to ask for a raise to … million UZS."
- Question: "What do you think? What else do you need to make a decision?"
Then stop talking and wait for the answer. Do not lower the amount yourself just to fill the silence.
What not to say: "Other people earn more", "I have a loan to pay", "If you don't raise it, I'll leave". Personal reasons are understandable, but they are not an argument for your manager. Talk about results and the market rate.
After the meeting, send a short message: "Thank you for the conversation. As we agreed, I will wait for your answer by …". This way the agreement is also in writing.
What to do if the answer is no
"No" often means "not now". Do not leave upset. Ask clear questions instead:
- "What results do I need to reach for my salary to go up?"
- "When can we come back to this? In three months?"
- "If a raise is not possible now, can we discuss other conditions?"
What you can ask for instead of money: a bonus, paid training or courses, a more convenient schedule, remote work days, or a new job title.
Write down the answer and put the agreed date in your calendar. On that day, come back with your new results.
When it's time to look for a new job instead
Sometimes there is simply no room to grow inside the company. Here are the signs:
- you have asked several times, but heard no conditions and no date;
- your pay is well below the market range, and nothing changes;
- your salary is paid late;
- you get more and more duties, but the terms stay the same.
Do not quit right away. First, start looking quietly: update your CV, follow vacancies for your profession on Cloz and go to a few interviews. Prepare with our guide to job interview questions and answers. To talk about money at a new company, use the ready phrases in how to negotiate salary in a job interview.
With a new offer in hand, talking to your current manager is also easier. But do not use an offer only to put pressure on them: mention it only if you are really ready to leave.
FAQ
How often can you ask for a raise?
Usually once a year, or when your duties have grown a lot. After a no, agree on a specific date and come back to the conversation then.
How much should I ask for in a raise?
Check the typical salary and range for your role on Cloz. Name a specific amount within that range, based on your experience and results.
Can I ask for a raise by email or message?
You can, but a face-to-face conversation works better. Use a message to set up the meeting, and send your results page after the conversation.
What if my manager says "I'll think about it"?
Thank them and ask when you can expect an answer. If there is no answer by that date, send a polite reminder.
